“Japanese people love to be the same, they don’t wanna be different from others, it’s some Japanese custom, I hate that. being unique makes the world that more different.” -MK
This episode features Masashi Koyama, QuestHand`s first Japanese guest. A fellow dance artist who worked with Robert in Toronto. They performed in a production called ‘Susuriwka – willow bridge’ by Santee Smith of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre. It is quite synchronistic to reunite with Masashi after all these years in the location of Yokohama, as this city is where Masashi first met Santee Smith with early workshops to create Susuriwka. Robert only met Masashi in Canada, so it is nice when the tables turn and to connect in his country.
“I’m like a crazy person, I stretch so much. Sometimes people get pissed at me that I spend so much time stretching.” -MK
This episode was very spontaneous, as Masashi was visiting Quantum of The Seas on a ship tour. Robert felt his english was stronger than he remembered, so asked if he would be open to being on the show. Masashi is a very easy-going, happy-go-lucky guy so said “Yes”. They recorded in the wonderful open, relaxing venue of Music Hall.
“I have fun everyday and I don’t need to drink.” -MK
Masashi has a great approach to life that involves, lots of dancing, sleeping, stretching and eating ice cream. It keeps him young and healthy. Robert has rarely met someone so connected to the truth of themselves. True uncluttered joy. There is great strength in being yourself.
“When I am sad, I wanna have ice cream to make me happy. It’s that simple.” -MK
Masashi has a personal blog website where he shares anything he wishes to write about. Sometimes it is a sentence or more full text. Sometimes many pictures or announcements of his performances. It is in Japanese (one can use google translate to decipher) :
The theme of this ‘WeeklyQuest’ is HEALTH. To do some stretching because it’s good for you. Try for at least 30 minutes a day or whenever you can.
